After a long career as a physician assistant, I began making jewelry in 2008. After working with beads for a few years, I became interested in metals and stones and took classes at the Boca Museum Art School in Boca Raton, FL. in silversmithing and lapidary techniques. I set up a studio in my home and began cutting stones and fabricating jewelry in silver and base metals. Recently I have been "upcycling" old brass and copper plates and trays into wearable works of art. I disassembles these often tarnished and distressed objects into their component parts, which I then utilizes as the substrate for imaginative jewelry designs which take advantage of the ornate engraving and decoration of the source material. Generally brass or copper, these materials are then fabricated into unique jewelry, often embellished with silver, stones or beadwork.
